This site has some truly funny things on it. Try the Parent Land Mines:

"I just calmly explained to my 7-year-old that he was behaving irrationally, and he immediately cleaned his room and then gave me 20 dollars in restitution for the mental anguish he caused." Dude, my kid is shitting in the bathtub and then playing "submarine" with it. "Irrational" isn't exactly a concept he's familiar with.

I am a grandfather with two grandkids. They are great to watch and remember better days. It was pretty clear I didn't want to say anything or make judgements or offer advice and act like a grandfather. Whatever my daughter in law and son were doing, just keep doing it. It was sometimes hard to watch as my grandaughter ran her younger brother into a door jam while riding a plastic tricycle through the house joyously screaming. Relax, chuckie. The growns up were sitting in the small living talking about Medicare regulations.I needed their advice about going on Part B.

I went home and thought a lot about that afternoon. I was the parent of one kid, not two. Two completely changes the dynamic, because the kids have their relationship to work through. The relations are not multiply, but exponiental. To illustrate the complexity, all possible permutations on 3 -> 3! = 6, and 4 -> 4! = 24. For 5 the permutations jump to 125. And yet kids seem to manage to negociate their place in the larger array of social place. This is the social complexity that a capitalist society reduces to a desert.

Anyway, it was a fun-serious and interesting visit this afternoon.
