[lbo-talk] Forbes arguing for cuts to the humanities

[WS:] The irony is that this is not such a bad advice after all. The philosophy, sociology or humanity departments are nothing more than a fig leaf on the naked truth that unis are nothing more than credential dispensaries to those in a position to pay for them.

Why maintaining a fiction that it is about anything else? I would go even further and say "close the brick and mortar unis altogether and replace them with on line services." You need a degree? Log in, answer a few questions, type your credit card number and voila, you have the credential that you need. And the good side of it is that smart people who now waste their time on maintaining their academic jobs and applying for research grants may start thinking critically about this whole system and, who knows, become a social force to change it instead of reproducing it?
