I think if you want your kid to have a career, teach them cursive.
Being able to read cursive is essential to doing archival work for
documents written before the 1930's and later for people who still
hand-wrote letters. I've been considering going through the letters of
Henry Carey for an archival project (or just personal illumination)
and I'm dismayed that I might not be able to overcome my difficulty of
reading cursive.
