[WS:] Who said that islamism is a unified movement? There are many different groups - some political protest movement, some proxies for foreign powers (Pakistant, Iran, etc) some political opposition groups, and a whole bunch of male zealots as I described.

I see no reason for supporting any one of them, even political protest movements (however justified by reaction to imperialism) because their vision has zero appeal to me. End of story. If that puts me in the same basket with necons and cruise missile liberals, I have no problem with that. As they say, even a stopped clock shows the right time two times a day. As to the "clash of civilizations" trope - it is mostly a bunch of politicized nonsense, but if you approach the subject from a different angle e.g. Bourdieu's distinctions based on cultural and aesthetic preferences, it might be something worth reading. Unless of course one dismisses Bourdieu as another cruise missile liberal.
