[lbo-talk] catastrophism

>From the blurb: "The left fears for the worst, but hopes some good will
emerge from the rubble. Visions of the apocalypse and predictions of impending doom abound."

This is not true, empirically, for the reason I've been arguing for over a decade. Criticisms about something called "The Left" have no content. What is "the left"?

What left organization holds to the view described here? What important left writers? Are those who proclaim a catastrophe at all central to actual left practice, or do they only exist in books, articles, & web sites.

The book itself, as described in the blurb, seems to exemplify some sort of catastrophism -- or at least fairly silly hand-wringing.
