Trotsky was a theoretician of communism, a strategist, a man of letters, and the merciless chief of the Red Army immediately following the success of the Boshevik Revolution (represented by the character of Strelnikov in Dr. Zhivago!)....

Trotsky and Stalin differed substantially about the future course of Communism, and Trotsky's was the more radical view (permanent revolution versus socialism in one country). So who was Trotsky, and how would we know?

CB: The strategy of "Socialism in one country" is also the caution that the Russian Revolution was not "spreadable" to other countries , either overtly or covertly. Lenin's judgment was in part based on the non-spreadability principle when he stopped Trotsky from leading the Red Army into Poland in pushing the German's out of Russia/SU in the period of the Russian Civil War.

Dr Shivago another Hollywood take on the Russian Rev.
