In the 43rd district in Seattle was - a socialist made the run-off against Frank Chopp and he actually chose to debate her, for which I will gve the bastard some credit. The story below unsurprisingly in the tank for Chopp. Just to let you know, Chopp is NOT that liberal even by the standards of the WA state Demos. Many in the state Lege are to his left. For not most part he does not have a world viw at all. He is a master of big ticket retail politics. Doing one favor at a time for powerful people. He never comes close to breaking any laws, but I see no signs of political principles, not even political principles I disagree with. I think since he is in a liberal district and advances policy well to the right of most people in his districts, debating a socialist is a cheap bone to throw the liberal and lefty voters.

Incidentally, I saw Kshama Sawant speak at Evergreen yesterday. She drew a large audience that included local liberals and left Demcorats. I'm getting the impression that among young people to the left the crazy right "socialist" is no longer the scary word it used to be. It may be terrifying to loder people and and third of the population who is deeply reactionary, but among the rest people are perfectly willing to listen to socialists, without the term arousing special suspicions or shutting down their ability to hear. Impressin. Dunno if the data backs this..
