MapLight, an innovative, award-winning nonprofit illuminating money in politics, is seeking a Database Journalist/Editorial Director to discover and write about newsworthy money and politics findings in California government and in the U.S. Congress. This position is full-time and located in Berkeley, California (near BART).

MapLight shines a light on the connection between money and politics in unprecedented ways. Our website and groundbreaking database link campaign contributions with how legislators vote, revealing how money and politics affect the specific issues people care about.

Depending on the experience of the candidate, this position could be offered at a variety of job titles and levels of responsibility, including, for senior candidates, Editorial Director.

*Requirements:*

• Demonstrated experience producing data-driven reports or news stories with expertise and accuracy • High proficiency in data analysis tools and languages such as spreadsheets and SQL • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Five years writing experience as either a researcher or journalist • Ability to work well as a member of a team both with our existing internal research staff and our external media partners • Ability to both develop story ideas and produce final copy • Desire to follow the legislative process and political trends at both the Federal and California state levels on a daily basis • Knowledge of politics at the Federal level, and at the California state level (preferred) • Personal dedication to MapLight’s mission and work
