Ever read _The Black Jacobins_ by CLR James? I'd put it up with all of that stuff in terms of masterpieces of radical non-fiction. James is one of the towering figures of English-language Marxism, and his tendency was one of the few that attempted to adapt a Marxist perspective to the history, culture, and realities of North America, rather than merely upholding a staid pantheon of bearded Europeans.
