In the rich countries, the ideological campaign to discredit Lenin has
been relentless since the get-go. I imagine that Western Marxists
have often been tempted to disown or dismiss Lenin. The other notion
-- now common among Russian biographers -- is that Stalin was simply a
slightly exaggerated version of Lenin. I guess any personal defect
can be viewed as nothing but an exaggerated version of some personal
virtue. The (old but still best) biography of Lenin written by Gerard
Walter is nowhere to be found in English. But here's the Spanish
