We are all Keynesians , again, Krugman and the Republicans, too. We know Republicans want to cut social programs to hurt the 99%, but it is more than that. Contrary to their declaration that they want to get the budget deficit down to help the economy boost GDP, get an economic boom going, they actually want to cause recession to the whole "economy" , cut GDP. as well, not just cut welfare The Republicans, as the leading and open representatives of the big bourgeoisie, 1%, want bad economies, and not just to make Obama look bad. One capitalist kills many. The monopoly game is won in recessions when winners buy up losers cheap. Also, high unemployment puts downward pressure on wages. Finally, the bourgeoisie want lots of people poor, messed up struggling, because in that state they cannot unite, organize and fight back. They are too busy trying to survive, fighting each other, hustling, dog eat dog.Today especially the Republicans in Congress are purposefully trying to wreck the economy to the extent the federal government influences the whole economy. Same with the Snyderites in Michigan, etc. They know austerity will hurt the economy. Krugman tells them ,but they already know it. It is just that they want recession, reduced GDP, higher unemployment, less consumer spending. They _are_ Keynesians, but they apply his principles in reverse - to use government policy to cause recession, depression, not economic recovery.

Keynes's theory is that increased government spending during a recession helps to end the recession, because it puts more money into the hands of the mass of consumers who then spend it , which spending increases business sales and revenues, which is what ends recession. The Republicans are trying to cause the reverse: cut mass spending and cause recession. Why ? Because One capitalist kills many, and big killings are made when big companies fail, and there are more failures in economic depression. To the victors, the "One capitalists" that's creative destruction. Republicans are the chief representatives of the "one" capitalists.
