Of course he was, that was the basis of the defense's strategy, which was to put the victim on trial. Nothing new about that in criminal trials. In rape cases, defense attorneys have traditionally done the same thing. And in the case, the victim, that is Martin, was deceased, so the jury only had to deal with Zimmerman's side of the story. How convenient for him. IMO if both Zimmerman and Martin were white guys (or if they were both black guys), I very much doubt that Zimmerman would have left the courtroom with less than a manslaughter conviction.
