Repression would be the alternative, not the accompaniment, to "an inclusive democratic process". The military and its liberal supporters may now be having second thoughts about inviting the Islamists to participate in new elections. It's not certain that the liberals would be elected, nor inconceivable that the MB could be returned and/or the Nour party make major gains. Then the liberals and the generals and their US backers would be back to square one, with a much, much weaker hand then they have now. The Obama administration, still publicly on record as favouring elections and reconciliation with the Islamists, has got to be weighing this possible unintended consequence very carefully as it feels its way forward.
