False dichotomy. Universities are today what religion was in
pre-modern times - a symbolic, idealized representation of social
relations that instills apriori ideas of those relations (Durkheim's
idea.) To play that role, they cannot be just another secular place
run by naked power politics, they have to maintain the aura of
otherworldly purity. So university run by policemen is just as absurd
as religious institution run by lowlife - it is an oxymoron. Its main
function is to instill the idea of hierarchy in the impressionable
young minds and it can effectively perform that function only if the
hierarchy is veiled, shrouded in mystique seemingly detached from the
worldly pursuits.
