There was a well-known commo from Melbourne who espoused that theory. During the Vietnam War Albert Langer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Langer advocated sending material support to the Viet Cong. I believe this was relatively early in the anti-Vietnam war days. He explained later that he believed this was a positive for other anti-Vietnam war activists, since it made them look quite moderate in comparison to those like him who advocated aiding the enemy.

I dunno about that. But I suppose its arguable. The theory that those who fly with crows get shot with crows is just as plausible. And aiding the Viet Cong seems a perfectly reasonable position to me anyhow.
