No definite answer. These questions and provisional answers all stem from 'studies' of pre-literate cultures, long dead. There is no direct evidence of how humans organized their lives in (say) 45,000 BP. But with or without answers, exploring the matter is endlessly fascinating and, I think, intellectually fruitful.
