"The world"??? Obama will be fortunate if he can muster enough support for a unilateral US bombardment. Public opinion in the US, UK, and France is running strongly against intervention. Only in Israel is there popular support for military action against the Assad regime.

Sectarian tensions and bloodletting reached their peak during the US occupation of Iraq. That adventure exacerbated rather than eased the conflict between Sunnis, Shias, and Kurds, and its results are being felt still.
