I leave far from the French Media mainland, but as far as I can tell, the French press has mostly ignored that book. Plus, the political mood there, where socialists are in power but try to implement the least socialist looking policies possible does not leave much room for opposing views.
Just out of curiosity, check "Le Capital au xxie siècle" on the web and see what kind of hits you get. Hard to say from there that the publication contributed to any kind of debate.
