[lbo-talk] Chapter 2: Biology and Evolution

It is true that in an ideal educational system in an ideal society there would be no multiple-choice tests.

There would be no multiple-choice tests because there would be no tests.

There would be no tests because there would be no grades.

There would be no grades because there would be no merit-systems.

But in the world of Austerity and Privatization as is the case now, and with increasing use of over-worked adjuncts, to criticize multiple-choice tests is a crime against humanity. The criticism should be against standardized tests of any sort.

An aging local hippie earns his living in part by grading essays for some testing agency.

Also, essay exams are evil because they identify intelligence with writing ability. And this in turn leads to such political idiocy as condemning Bush for his lack of intelligence and voting for Obama because of his intelligence.

Let's have some class solidarity on this list. Teachers are workers. Unfortunately they are not at present really defending themselves. But that is no excuse for stray leftists to grouch about them or to fail to support them.

Students will take care of themselves. Focus on fellow workers.

Particularly when they mix ignorance with dogmatism.
