[lbo-talk] "Men make their own history..."

"Men make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past. The tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living." Marx, 18th Brumaire...

Our own history weighs like an alp on our current efforts to gain liberation, no matter level of oppression our skin colour has penned us into.

Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.

Colossians 3:22

Ephesians 6:5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.

"You who are slaves must accept the authority of your masters with all respect. ... To those who are Servants among you: Submit to your masters in reverence.." St. Peter

The key to the good afterlife is obeying your rulers as your rulers have obviously died in their past lives with a lot of good karma. Right?

I wonder whether Martin Luther used these quotes in his battle with the revolting peasants of Germany. Any LOBsters have any insights?
