Shane points us to Lambert Strether: "Obama and the DINOs Lost Because They Fought For What They Believed In"

That is indeed the whole story. It is the most important story for leftists to grasp. THE Enemy is the DP.

I've been saying this for years. The DP would rather lose than give any encouragement to left principles or public action. They are THE Party of Reaction.

The Republicans merely fill what little space the DP leaves to its right.

The DP leadership is intelligent, politically astute, courageous, and principled. It just happens that their principles are those of international capitalism: Austerity and Endless War.

Attempts by leftists to move the DP left will merely create false hopes. It will take an immensely strong left movement independent of electoral politics, to bring about any substantive change. Such a strong movement would (or at least could) _use_ elections as one of its tactics but would not depend on elections.
