To be, perhaps, a bit more specific: They never have to deal
with any opposition or criticism from below, but frequently
experience it from above. This makes them very craven in
one direction and very overweening and arrogant in the
other. They are, essentially, organelles of the hierarchy.

Opposition from an unexpected direction utterly
discombobulates them. The usual response is to call the
campus cops and see to it that somebody gets Tased,
but la Wise may be a somewhat more fragile specimen
than the usual run. She's certainly getting a lot more
pushback than they usually do.
