Contact the White House and State Department now to demand his release
(WASHINGTON DC 08/14/2015) – Political prisoner attorney Mohammad Allan is in a coma and on a ventilator, reportedly near death, after 59 [now 62!] days of a hunger strike he waged to protest being held under administrative detention.
Under administrative detention, prisoners are held without charge or trial. They are usually held for six months at a time period, which can be renewed indefinitely. The tactic, used commonly by Israel against Palestinians, contravenes numerous international laws as well as American laws the stipulate recipients of US foreign aid must uphold human rights.
Allan began his hunger strike on June 16, 2015 to protest the May renewal of his administrative detention for a further six months. Israeli occupation authorities have refused Allan’s call to be released and instead tried to coerce Allan to end his hunger strike, according to prisoners’ rights group Addameer.
TAKE ACTION NOW
As is the case with many Palestinian political prisoners, Israel has deprived Allan of his rights to due process. They have held him for nine months without bringing any charges against him or without a trial.
The United States, as Israel’s largest financial supporter, is in a unique position to pressure Israel to release Allan. Call, email and Tweet today to ask President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry to uphold our American values of justice, liberty and due process by demanding Israel release Allan today and to ensure he gets adequate medical treatment.
