SALLIE LATCH IS INTERVIEWING REFUGEES IN GREECE, AS THEY ARE ARRIVING AND BEFORE THEY'RE SENT ELSEWHERE OR RETURNED BACK TO THE WAR ZONE.

HERE SALLIE INTERVIEWS, FOR WBAI RADIO -- A SYRIAN WOMAN WITH 3 KIDS.

THERE ARE ALMOST NO -- NADA -- INTERVIEWS WHERE REFUGEES ARE ALLOWED TO SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES IN U.S. MEDIA. INSTEAD, THEY ARE DEMONIZED. LET'S PUT A FACE ON THEM.

PACIFICA SHOULD EMBRACE, BROADCAST, AND PUBLICIZE THIS, WHICH IS THE FIRST OF A SERIES. (I DID THE EDITING ....)

Here's a slight modification of the intro I've added to this 17 minute and 51 seconds audio report (I leave out in the audio that Sallie is "my friend"):

My friend Sallie Latch is an 83-year-old artist born in Cleveland and who grew up in Northern California. She left her current home in Mexico to go to the island of Samos in Greece, to voluntarily work with refugees fleeing bombings and warfare in Syria and Iraq. She arrived there just as the European Union decided to turn away newly arriving refugees and send them back to Turkey, which parallels the United States and other countries turning away boatloads of Jews fleeing the Nazis during World War 2. The Center for Global Justice in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, contributed to Sallie's efforts and helped make her trip possible.

We're going to hear now Sallie Latch's first interview with a refugee from Syria, recorded a few days ago..
