We were dreading this time of year: the horse race journalism, apolitical wonkery, and endless platitudes. But at least the last few weeks have been interesting.

Whatever you think of Bernie Sanders's campaign and his decision to seek the presidency on the Democratic Party ballot line, the response his candidacy has received has been illustrative. On the one hand, waves of support <https://www.jacobinmag.com/2016/01/bernie-sanders-demographics-base-liberals-moderates-iowa-new-hampshire/> for a self-described socialist candidate pushing an unapologetically social-democratic agenda. On the other, brazen attacks from establishment media <https://www.jacobinmag.com/2016/01/vox-bernie-sanders-single-payer-ezra-klein-matt-yglesias/> and anxious party elites <https://www.jacobinmag.com/2016/02/bernie-sanders-democratic-party-primary-president-iowa-caucus-new-hampshire-primary/> on that candidate.

It's our hope that some of those excited by the campaign — who are very aware of the ongoing assault on it — will join us in building a relevant, politically independent, socialist opposition <https://www.jacobinmag.com/2015/11/bernie-sanders-socialism-franklin-roosevelt-four-freedoms-economic-bill-rights/> .

At 120 pages, our next issue is a contribution to those looking to understand this political moment. It covers the rise and the fall of the welfare state, the roots of Third Way politics, and the new challenges to neoliberalism. It features contributions from Robert Brenner, Paul Heideman, Lily Geismer, and a host of other amazing contributors <https://www.jacobinmag.com/issue-20-preview/>. All issues are in transit, and domestic subscribers should receive them within a couple weeks.

As usual, both the print and digital versions are packed with dozens of infographics, along with great art. Only subscribers <http://jacobinmag.com/subscribe/> will have immediate access to the articles and all of the other content we won’t put on the site.

Read and share the preview here <https://www.jacobinmag.com/issue-20-preview/>. And be sure to either subscribe <https://www.jacobinmag.com/subscribe/> to the magazine or renew <https://www.jacobinmag.com/settings/> your old subscriptions to make sure you get a copy. Individual issues are also on sale for $12.95 <https://auth.jacobinmag.com/store/cart/add/n22?redirect=https://www.jacobinmag.com/checkout> .

We will be celebrating the release of our new issue on Thursday, February 11 at the Mayday Space in Brooklyn (176 St. Nicholas Avenue). A short event starts at 7 PM sharp, and a release party will follow. RSVPs here <https://www.facebook.com/events/1683500748559462/> are appreciated.

Also, for those who backed our *ABCs of Socialism <https://www.jacobinmag.com/2015/12/the-abcs-of-socialism/> *project, an update: we're at work finalizing and designing our booklets and are really excited with how everything came together. We'll release some pieces from it <https://www.jacobinmag.com/2016/01/democratic-socialism-government-bernie-sanders-primary-president/> over the course of the next month, but the physical copies will be to you in March. (And yes, you can still back <https://www.jacobinmag.com/2015/12/the-abcs-of-socialism/> the project.)
