The latest NBC/WSJ poll shows Bernie Sanders “has opened up big leads in Iowa and New Hampshire among independents who say they will participate in the Democratic contests” and would be a stronger general-election candidate”, not only than Hilary but, strikingly, also against the three leading Republican contenders in the two traditionally conservative states.

According to the poll, Sanders has “big leads” over Trump, Cruz, and Rubio in New Hampshire and leads Cruz and Trump while tied with Rubio in Iowa.

This comes despite the glaring lack of attention paid to the Sanders campaign by the media which imperiously dismissed him a fringe candidate from the beginning. The Corbyn campaign in Britain was similarly handicapped.

Which demonstrates that popular political consciousness is not as easily moulded by the corporate media and elite opinion in hard times, and is further evidence of leftward motion, particularly by young urban workers and students, in the two major English-speaking countries.
