[lbo-talk] NDP at risk of losing official party status

The fruits of the NDP’s rightward shift with respect to fiscal spending and its less than unequivocal opposition to pipeline expansion - a hemorrhaging of its support to the Liberals and Greens. This is more than an electoral blip, and the daylight between the three parties continues to decrease. If the NDP’s trade union base and nominally socialist program once justified its existence as a separate party, it is difficult to make that case today.

“The New Democrats continue to see their support slide. The party has averaged 13 per cent over the last three months, down 6.7 points from the last election and the third consecutive quarter of decline…If an election were held today, the NDP would struggle to achieve the 12 seats needed for official party status.”
