The actual quote from Mao is:------------------------------Concrete analysis of concrete conditions, Lenin said, is "the most essential thing in Marxism, the living soul of Marxism". Lacking an analytical approach, many of our comrades do not want to go deeply into complex matters, to analyse and study them over and over again, but like to draw simple conclusions which are either absolutely affirmative or absolutely negative.... From now on we should remedy this state of affairs."Our Study and the Current Situation" (April 12, 1944), Selected Works, Vol. III, p. 165.--------------------------------------------- So Mao was attributing that to Lenin. But that raises the question as to whether he was directly quoting Lenin or was Mao paraphrasing hum. I'm trying to trace the first appearance in Marxist (or Marx) writings of the phrase, "concrete analysis of concrete conditions." My eyesight makes it difficult to follow reference in a google search, but the most frequent reference is to Mao, On Contradiction, but I'm sure it has appeared elsewhere (and earlier)????

Could anyone help?
