Nuclear-armed Israel may have the most powerful military in the Middle East, but it is rotting from within. The real existential threat to the the Zionist project comes from an accelerating exodus out of the country of  its better educated youth rather than from hostile neighbouring states. 

Despite its advanced high tech sector, Israel has one of the highest levels of poverty and income inequality in the Western world, and many young Israelis are seeking better economic opportunities in the US and elsewhere.

But many are also leaving, according to this Newsweek report, in reaction to the predominantly right-wing, religious, and racist character of Israeli society. "I want my country to remain democratic and Jewish, not Jewish and then democratic" one young woman preparing to emigrate told the magazine.
