The EU’s proposed special purpose vehicle to circumvent the Trump administration’s sanctions against Iran is an important step towards ending the exorbitant privilege of the US dollar and its use as a weapon to enforce the US will on other states. The European initiative will almost certainly include the participation of China and Russia.
