A study by the Peterson Institute shows how the Chinese government is using access to its vast market to counter Trump's tariffs. It has raised import duties on selected US industries while sharply lowering tariffs on their competitors in Europe and elsewhere. 

If the Trump administration is finally forced by US corporations - especially those which derive an increasing share of their profits from the China market - to retreat from its trade offensive against the PRC, this strategy will have likely proved paramount.
