Isn't the point that while securities don't necessarily reflect the value
of a company or the overall economy, sooner or later they have to? If I was
a big-time investor, I'd get really cold feet about buying stocks right
now. Speaking of that, Doug, I thought the Columbia professor you
interviewed the other week was much too sanguine about the Japanese
economy. What he didn't talk about was the prospects for sustained
expansion in the Far East. Isn't it the case that Japan's economy is very
much linked up with the "tigers." How can Japan resolve its problems while
people in Thailand are eating bark to survive.
