I know that many of the folks at rehab with me had to shorten their stays because insurance wouldn't cover it. If I remember correctly, the insurace cos. would pay for five day detox but not 28 day residential. But then, also if I remember correctly (it was a vague time for this kind of observing), the insurance cos. would only pay for a certain number of detox visits. In my 33 days there I saw a few of the detoxers come in, go out, and come in again. Many people spend years in this pattern. It's darkly called the "detox shuffle."
As for me, I have no insurance for the psych visits because temping provides no benefits. My visits were few because of the expense.
