I'll file Louis's post right alongside the accusation in Rec.Sports.Baseball last month that I was biased against white players because I didn't think we cold really tell how good Ruth, Cobb, or Walter Johnson was because they played before integration.
When I moved to Philadelphia, wmy ex-boyfriend and I specifically sought out neighborhoods where an interracial couple would feel at home. In retrospect, we probably worried too much about it, but that's why I live where I do.
I wouldn't refer to ghetto residents as a "bunch of fat n---gers" because they're not fat and they're not even all African-Americans. We have plenty of Asian and Puerto Rican and even Jewish, Russian and Irish ghettos.
The community of Philadelphia has done a very good job of looking out for the nourishment of its poor. The churches and missions of this city open their doors daily to the homeless and hungry, especially in African-American neighborhoods. The accusations of Mark Jones that we let our people go hungry is simply not true-- at least not in my city. And Louis's post is an ignorant insult to the good people who do feed the poor in this city.
Political correctness is a wonderful thing when it calls for politeness and respect in public speech. When it calls for distorting facts and imagining great problems where there are minor problems, it's wrong. And calling somone a racist as quickly and ignorantly as Louis did cheapens the word.
Louis, most of your posts are great and I get a lot of educational value out of the historical posts. It's what you do well. Looking into other people's souls over the intenet is beyond your capacity.
