still thinking about Louis' cop

I'm trying to get work done--have a deadline hanging over me. But I'm finding myself haunted by Louis' cop.

Isn't funny that we're all assuming that she was seriously interested in Louis? Doesn't this say something about gender roles and expectations. I'm a reasonably attractive woman, and frequently get attention like that. Most youngish, attractivish (not movie-star level attractiveness) get that kind of attention. And I suspect that many, if not most, find it an irritating form of sexual harrassment that we are forced to deal with. It would never occur to me to take that attention seriously, or more precisely, I would never take that attention to be more than an assertion of social power and male supremacy. I certainly wouldn't consider asking one for his phone #. When I had the cop suitor, I found him doubly annoying because it was a combo of male supremacy and cop supremacy.

So, I guess I wonder why we would assume this wasn't just an arbitrary assertion of cop power. No offense meant (although I suspect it will be taken), but this truck me as a bit locker room-ish, with the assumptions that "yeah, she wanted me."

Of course, maybe Louism just looks *really* good in a pair of shorts.

Cheers, Frances
