It has been argued that Thomas More's _Utopia_, viewed by many as an early utopian socialist work, was inspired by the more favorable reports emanating from North America regarding the kinds of behavior among Native American Indians that Louis P. admires.

I would also note that Powhatan was succeeded by his brother who was less friendly towards the new Virginia colonists and nearly succeeded in wiping them out in 1622. Probably the least known historical site in Virginia is an unmarked mound near a railroad track on the Pamunkey reservation in southeastern Virginia. There is much debate as to whether it is the grave of Powhatan, of his brother, or of both.

BTW, Pocahontas's real name was Matoaka. And for those who don't know, she was taken as a hostage by English settlers on the Potomac and was then sent to Jamestown as a prisoner. This was the context within which she met and married John Rolfe, after converting to Christianity. She died not long after arriving in England where she is buried. Of course her son returned to Virginia where he became a wealthy tobacco grower. During the years of "one drop of blood" racist legislation in Virginia, there was always the famous "Pocahontas exception". Descendents of Pocahontas were classified as "white" despite having at least that "one drop of [non-white] blood".
