Wednesday's Midday Movers

Amazon.com and AOL are soaring, as mentioned above, but they aren't the only Internet names in the stratosphere this morning. Additionally, eBay was up 22 13/16, or 11.8%, to 217, Yahoo! (YHOO:Nasdaq) was higher by 9 1/4, or 4.7%, to 207 1/8, and Books-A-Million (BAMM:Nasdaq) was up 9, or 90%, to 19 1/16. Books-A-Million is up (in part) on news it is going to acquire NetCentral, a Nashville, Tenn.-based Internet service company that recently designed Books-A-Million's web site.

Additionally, First Priority Group (FPGP:Nasdaq) was up 1 3/8, or 78.6%, to 3 1/8 after agreeing to combine with privately held American Information to create an online car club for consumers.

Meanwhile, K-tel (KTEL:Nasdaq) was up 2 5/16, or 18.8%, to 14 5/8 after setting plans to sell up to $20 million in new shares in order to meet Nasdaq Stock Market listing requirements. Additionally, the company said it expects to post a second-quarter loss of $1 million.
