Re Rakesh's:  "If after this bombardment for no evident reason at all,
Israel doesn't live
up to the Wye Accords, the US will be facing the mother of all clash of
civilizations."

Yes, this is a particularly appalling time in Middle Eastern affairs:
U.S. client state Israel thumbs its nose at the Wye Agreement with utter
impunity, while Iraqis get tons of high explosives rained on them in an
action unlikely to loosen Saddam Hussein's grip on power.
