Ricky Ray Rector was executed in an Arkansas prison after the then Governor Clinton, took time out of his campaign for the democratic nomination to go back home to refuse his appeal for clemency.
Ricky Ray (can that name be real? I remember that Willie Horton was once interviewed and said that his name was William, but calling him Willie fit the stereotype of crazy black man, so it stuck) was shot in the head during his arrest for murder. Suffering brain damage the defence argued that he could not be considered culpable, because he could not understand the sentence being passed on him.
Their argument was supported by the discovery after the execution of a slice of pie under Rector's cell bunk, from his last meal: saved for when he came back.
all of this from memory, so please check if quoting
