I was reading an essay be David Mandel that reports a large increase in employment of women post 90-91 USSR. In the same essay he mentions that many men are unwilling to report themselves as unemployed, as well as noting the alcoholism. The essay is in the 1996 Black Rose publications series on former socialist states. Can't remember the exact title right now, but David Mandel is the editor.
