George Will came out with a statistic in his column recently where he was
talking about how prosperous everyone is, that the average household
income is about $55,000, which seemed super high. There must be a large
gap between that and the median. The average house price in the Seattle
Median is near or under $40K.
Don't forget income is a broader concept than earnings,
household is broader than family, and family is
broader than individual.
The typical family has less income today than it did at
The previous business cycle peak during the reign of
Bush. The last few years have improved incomes
But not enough to restore previous levels.
