Lester Brown is wrong on this question, but there is a lot of confusion
about it in the broader progressive movement. For example, many black
progressives have also taken the wrong position as well. At a Socialist
Scholars Conference of a couple of years ago, WBAI talk-show host Playthell
Benjamin supported the positions of FAIR, an anti-immigration group. We
should also keep in mind that many libertarian-oriented right-wingers, like
Jack Kemp and the late Julian Simon, are vehemantly pro-open borders.
