Open Letter to the Nation magazine

Katrina reportedly gave about $1 mil to the magazine around the time she was appointed editor (this was related to me by Alex Cockburn). The cynics among us always took it that she bought the editorship. Second, as to efforts to broaden readership, that probably was the idea, but in fact the mag's circulation has descended from a high point in the 130,000-140,000 range down to 86,000 at present. The fallacy of centrism once again.

To add one more thought to this thread. My partner, Tom, who has amazing good common sense, says he thinks the Nation has gone middle road to get more subscriptions, to show profits, to build their empire so to speak.

Someone told me that the editor, Katrina vanden Heuval, owns a large interest in the publication. Can anyone verify this?
