Charlotte is a pathetically weak town for unions. It hasn't suffered the massive deindustrialization that older cities have, so there isn't much concern here for working people. I've been half-seriously kicking around the idea of trying to start a Jobs With Justice chapter, but I'm not sure what that would really involve as far as time, effort, and money. There is one local organization called the "Progressive Alliance," which is really just a personality cult for the spineless local Clintonite pundit,

Jerry Klein. It's only major actions to date have been defending Tony Kushner's play Angels in America, and protesting Kenneth Starr when he spoke here recently. In other words, they're cappuccino swilling, Mother Jones reading well-to-do pwogs.
