I was thinking the same--the McLuhanesque reverberations through out the whole thing. But isn't that exactly the move that's being made by his followers in CA especially. Lots of USers dismiss McLuhan as a crack pot, but man from what I can tell, the Canadians *love* him and, perhaps, as well they should since for them it's likely a way of resisting US cultural hegemony. So, I try to give 'em a break.
