I wish I could take credit for the criticism, but it came from the World Socialist Web Site. That fact is buried somewhere in the middle of the piece.

What's painful to me about the whole thing is that Cockburn is one of the first writers of the left I was exposed to, back when I thought the Nation was as radical as one could get.

re: Max calling Cockburn a Trotskyist, that certainly ain't the case. There's an old column Christopher Hitchens did called "Is Alex Cockburn a Stalinist?" or something like that. I'll see if I can't dig it up from InfroTrac.
