cruise envy

Carl Remick pointed me to this hideous editorial from the Observer <http://www.newsunlimited.co.uk/Observer/Story/0,3879,39805,00.html>. The paper is edited by a social democrat, Will Hutton - right? Here's the concluding paragraph:

"The Blair goverment is on the spot. If the war is to be won, Blair and Chirac must pressurise Clinton into stepping up the US commitment - an alliance with Europe against the US that Blair will not want to make. We must be clear-headed about our aims and be ready to step up our effort. There must be a longer term plan for Balkan economic reconstruction, and for the international order generally. But if Blair wants to be a successful war leader, like Churchill and Thatcher, he must learn to be as ruthless."

Loyal White House leak recipient Joe Conason has a column in the New York Observer beating the war drums too. What is it? After all these years of watching right-wingers wage war, and half-heartedly criticizing them, now they're all suffering cruise missile envy? Clinton's used more cruises so far than they did in the Gulf War.

I bet if it were Dole, Kohl, and Major giving the orders there'd be a lot more people in the streets.
