Think about Nato command in Europe and the fact that a lot of countries
(including France) want a share of what is basically held by the US. I see the
strikes as a way to show European politicians that military policy in the area
is decided by the US and not by anybody else and the aim is to weaken
politicians in the area and discredit social democrat governments. And there
is much more that oil in the area : 300 000 000 million people and the biggest
market in the developped world : you don't want to have a stong political
entity (means political+military+economic) keep you from selling you stuff...
