This is neither an apology or an excuse - but it seems to me that Teddy was [attempting] to provide a critique of the self-humiliation of performers who transform themselves into commodities, in the name of art, for the consuming gaze of consumers. One should also add feminism and queer politics to his list of insensitivities.
