The NYPD doesn't need an excuse to get violent. Also, New York has about 38,000 cops; Seattle, 1,200. To get a similar demonstrator/cop ratio in NYC would require 1,266,667 protesting bodies (extrapolating from the 40,000 Seattle estimate).
